Increased Stratospheric Humidity?
Recent analyses have indicated that the eruption of the Hunga Tonga volcano in December of 2021 increased the humidity of the stratosphere which could conceivably cause increased global warming.
Curious about this, I ran the CRM radiative transfer model on a hypothetical sounding compared with the same sounding and humidity increased by 10%.
The results indicate a radiative forcing change of around 0.2W/m² as seen here:
I also examined the ERA5 humidity data for stratospheric levels:
There does not appear to be an obvious increase of stratospheric humidity associated with the Hunga-Tonga eruption.
So, a ten percent increase of humidity would result in a positive, but small radiative forcing and there is not such an increase obvious in the reanalysis.
